My work derives from a focus on visual acuity, with the hope of making individuals more aware of the capacity of their vision and its ability to influence and enhance their experience and interactions with the world around them. By "turning the eyes on" and exciting the visual experience through color, composition, shape and other elements, my intent is to stimulate the connection, comprehension and immersion of oneself in the immediacy of the "here and now". The ability of the eye to make conceptual distinctions prior to cognitive analysis influences my limited use of recognizable imagery. I prefer to present imagery that is plausible, as some "unknown", that engages the eye to further examination and consideration. This approach utilizes the eye's capacity for information gathering, minimizing influence from the brain on our perceptions through familiarity and past experience. Visual art enriches my environment and life in physical and philosophical ways. I work with all sorts of materials and relish the process, challenges and considerations inherent in making art, hoping the results stimulate others as well. This Web site includes various work samples, further explanations and information about my work. Viewing the images on a computer screen at reduced scale greatly diminishes the impact and detail one experiences with an actual piece, so I include some fragment detail examples to give an idea of what you would actually "see" at full scale.
